Last saturday I put the call out to anyone in my crew willing to come down. It was a sunny day, I was determined not to waste it. We had beforehand come up with the idea for ‘The Bounty Hunters.’ This would be a fake movie trailer for an ultra cheesy feature film about bounty hunters whose sole motivation is getting money to buy ice cream. I tried to use as many ice cream related puns as I could, although my ‘any given sundae’ line never made it into the cut.
Flash forward to the shoot day and not as many show up as I was expecting. That’s fine, we’re used to working around our circumstances. Our work around came in the form of talented actor Atakan Aydin. At only sixteen years old he has more work ethic and drive than the late-twenties early-thirties crowd I see shuffling along. I have no doubt he’ll be a big deal one day. He played the role of henchmen and also played crime kingpin Lucha Muertos, which required him to wear a mask:
We improvised a lot of elements throughout. The ideas were mainly inspired by previous bounty hunting shows like Cowboy Bebop:
Also Firefly, and stuff of that ilk. There’s something about the idea of the bounty hunter in these shows. They’re people on the raggedy edge of society, barely scraping by, but with enough skill to kick some serious ass if it came to it.
